Our Dad

Derek was a wonderful Dad. He was a kind, considerate, gentle, fun loving person and so generous. He worked for the Post Office for nearly 30 years. He loved his job and the Post Office meant a great deal to him. He was so sad when he had to retire at the young age of 60. He put his heart and soul into working for the GPO and he was greatly loved by all who came into contact with him. He worked very hard on the picket line when the general post office strike was on in 1971. He helped so many people. I have never known anyone as kind and compassionate as our Dad.

The Dad we know is gone and will never return. Dad had Alzheimer’s and Aphasia, but he was still great and amazing and wonderful and brilliant and we all still loved him to bits. He was cheeky and funny and kind. At the end he was also diagnosed with Pick's Disease. As I write this I have tears in my eyes because I would give anything to have our old Dad back with us.

Our Dad died on 24 March 2012 in East Surrey Hospital, Redhill. He was admitted after falling out of bed three weeks before. He died peacefully. He will be missed so much by everyone.
